From Homeownership to Entrepreneurship: Tiffany Miller’s Investment in Community

Believing in What’s Possible

In January 2016, Tiffany Miller’s home fell into tax foreclosure. When asked if she wanted to purchase it, her first reaction was hesitation.

“I didn’t know—I wanted to be married first, and have all the fairytale things before owning a home,” Tiffany recalled.

That perspective shifted when she connected with Acts Housing. With the support of a homebuyer coach and the City of Milwaukee’s Good Samaritan Program, Tiffany was able to purchase her home in January 2017.

“The biggest challenge is overcoming the thought of ‘can I really do this?’” Tiffany shared.

Having support throughout the process makes it easier, more manageable, and more possible.

Homeownership as Stability

For Tiffany, homeownership has been about much more than property ownership—it has been about creating a stable foundation for herself and her family.

“I think homeownership is important for families just to have a stable, consistent place to call home,” she said.

“With some families experiencing the constant bouncing around, that moving is hard. I hope families can experience homeownership so that they have that constant stability for themselves and for their kids.”

Today, Tiffany lives downstairs in her home while her adult son lives upstairs. This arrangement allows her son to save money, work in the community, and contribute to their household—an example of how stability creates opportunity for the next generation.

“Homeownership means family, community. It means a place that I can call home. Homeownership means love.”

From a Stable Foundation to Community Investment

The same belief and determination that made homeownership possible also inspired Tiffany to pursue entrepreneurship. In 2023, she opened Fruition MKE, Milwaukee’s only coworking café and creative space. Located just three minutes from her home in the Near West Side, the café provides healthy food options in a neighborhood often described as a food desert.

“It’s really cool to have a space within walking distance for myself and for my neighbors,” Tiffany said. “The belief in yourself that you need to own a home is similar to what you need for entrepreneurship.”

By putting down roots through homeownership, Tiffany was also laying the groundwork to reinvest in her community. Fruition MKE is more than a café—it’s a hub for creativity, collaboration, and neighborhood pride.

Why Tiffany’s Story Matters

Tiffany’s journey is a clear example of how Acts Housing’s mission—Buy a Home, Build a Community—comes to life. Her story demonstrates that:

  • Homeownership creates stability: Families gain consistent housing, which reduces stress and strengthens long-term planning.
  • Neighborhood investment follows stability: When families put down roots, they’re more likely to contribute to the health and vitality of their community.
  • An ecosystem of support matters: From homebuyer coaching to lending and grant support, Acts Housing provides the framework families need to succeed.

Tiffany’s decision to purchase her home not only gave her family stability, it also sparked a ripple effect: a business, a gathering space, and a renewed sense of possibility in her neighborhood.
