“A house is made of brick and mortar, but home is made by the people who live there.”
M.K. Soni
More than 160 Acts families became homeowners in 2020, with our team at their sides for the entire journey. In this challenging time, homeownership means more than ever to Acts families. Home has become the classroom, office, daycare, and recreational facility for many this year. In a time of deep uncertainty, the security, stability, and affordability of homeownership has changed our families’ lives for the better. Thank you for helping Acts continue this great work.
We have the capacity to put your donation to work. Help Acts serve even more families in 2021.

“This is it – this is our house”
DETERMINED
The Dismukes Family
Last summer, Yuselff and Nakeita decided it was time to find a home big enough for their family of six. They started homebuyer counseling, and by November, they were pre-approved for an Acts loan. They looked at a lot of houses over the next few months and came close to giving up the search. One night, Nakeita was browsing listings sent to her by her Acts realtor and found a city tax foreclosure that was in bad shape, having been empty for over a year. But it had good bones, plenty of space, and a big backyard. She emailed her Acts realtor and said, “This is it – this is our house.” Yuselff and Nakeita closed on their home in March without telling the children. They sped through their rehab, getting the house up to code and designing special themed rooms for the kids. The whole family moved in this fall, and they’re looking forward to celebrating their first Christmas in their new home.

“It sounded too good, too perfect. But it was true, they really do help you!”
PERSISTENT
The Trinidad Gonzalez Family
Jose and Ana spent years applying for a traditional home loan and were rejected time and again. When they heard about Acts Housing, they immediately thought there must be a catch. Jose says, “I couldn’t believe it at first. It sounded too good, too perfect. But it was true, they really do help you!” Ana found out that she was pregnant right around the time they closed on their home. The Trinidad Gonzalez rehab project became urgent – they were determined to move in before the baby arrived! The whole family spent many long nights and weekends working on the house. Sure enough, they were able to move in right before baby Magdalena was born and celebrate the holidays as homeowners.

“Acts Housing is
the best place.”
COMMITTED
The Alexander Family
Allen and Phoebe were named Acts Housing’s 2020 Homeowners of the Year. It took them two years from the time they found out that their landlord had allowed the duplex that they rented to go into foreclosure to the day they purchased the home they’d been renting for the last sixteen years. They made an incredible commitment to improving their credit and savings, even on a tight budget. Phoebe shares, “This is my PSA to anyone who’s looking to become a homeowner: Acts Housing is the place to go. If you want good people to work with you, and they will work with you from the beginning to the end. Our homebuyer counselor was a blessing. Our realtor was a blessing. He fought for us. He was my mouthpiece when I couldn’t leave work. If you’re really looking to seriously get into homeownership, Acts Housing is the best place. If I could do it all over again, I’d do it again.”
Thank you for your support of Acts Housing!
