Sometimes, the hardest part of homeownership isn’t the paperwork — it’s believing it’s possible in the first place.
For almost 19 years, Sandra rented. She moved when she had to, made do with what she had, and put off the idea of buying her first home because it never quite felt within reach. But she wanted more for her daughters — something stable, something that could be passed down, a place that was truly theirs.
“After renting for almost 19 years, I knew it was time to invest in something that belonged to my family. I wanted stability, something I could pass down to my daughters, and a place where we could truly call home. Taking that first step was exciting, but it was also scary. I wasn’t sure if I qualified or if I could really make it happen, but I decided to believe in myself and take a chance.”

Working with a Homebuyer Coach
After connecting with Acts Housing, Sandra was paired with a Homebuyer Coach, who worked with her one-on-one to build a plan based on her financial situation and homeownership goals.
A Homebuyer Coach doesn’t just guide families toward a closing date — they help each person understand where they stand today and what steps will get them there. Every journey looks different, and coaching is built around the person, not a one-size-fits-all timeline.
“There were times when the process felt overwhelming. Waiting on paperwork, gathering documents, and wondering if everything would work out made me question whether I should keep going. Tony never let me lose hope. He always reminded me that every step was bringing me closer to my goal. He was patient, answered every question I had, and encouraged me to stay focused. Knowing someone believed in me made all the difference.”

Staying the Course
Sandra didn’t expect the process to require this much patience — or how far Acts Housing would go to help her understand it.
“I was surprised by how much paperwork and patience the process required. I didn’t realize how many steps there were before closing. What also surprised me was how much Acts helped beyond just buying a house. They educated me about budgeting, credit, and every part of the process so I understood what was happening. They made something that felt impossible feel achievable.”
Sandra closed on her home on December 30th.
“The first time I unlocked my front door, I felt so many emotions—joy, relief, gratitude, and pride. It finally hit me that this was our home. For me and my daughters, it means security, stability, and a fresh start. It means creating memories, decorating together, celebrating birthdays and holidays, and knowing we have a place that’s truly ours. It’s a blessing I don’t take for granted.”
Tony was there every step of the way — and Sandra hasn’t lost sight of what it all means to her now.
“Homeownership means breaking a cycle and building a legacy,” Sandra says. “It means having a safe place where my family can grow and make memories. It’s more than owning a house—it’s having peace of mind, financial stability, and something I can leave to my children. It represents hard work, perseverance, and faith, and I’m proud to call myself a homeowner.”

Thinking About Homeownership? Here’s the Truth
Many people assume they need perfect credit or a large down payment before they can start thinking about homeownership. The reality is that everyone’s journey looks different.
Whether you’re hoping to buy a home soon or you’re just beginning to explore the idea, a Homebuyer Coach can help you understand where you are today and what steps can help you reach your goal.
For Sandra, staying committed made all the difference.
“Don’t give up, even when it feels hard. Trust the process and ask questions. There will be moments when you feel discouraged, but keep going because it’s worth it. Take advantage of the resources Acts offers, stay committed, and believe that homeownership is possible. If I can do it, you can too.”
