Potential homeowners often start their search for their dream home with a list – non negotiables that their dream home must have; two bedrooms with a garage, duplex and a fenced yard, a safe neighborhood and good schools. Eric Wells’ list included a home that was safe and easy to access for his wife. Eric’s wife has MS and it was essential that they found a home that she would feel confident and safe to walk around in. This meant bedrooms on the first floor, easy access to entrances and exits, and no stairs leading into the property.
Before he started house hunting, Eric worked with HUD-certified homebuyer coach Alex McCune. Eric took advantage of Acts homebuyer coaching to increase his credit and put money towards his savings fund. Once Eric became financially ready, he began working with Acts realtors, Deon Price to find the right home.
Acts realtors are special. They’re determined to serve families with smaller budgets, and they know the ins and outs of the City foreclosure market. As part of a family’s home buying team, they collaborate with homebuyer coaches, lenders, and home rehab coaches to make deals happen.
Deon was determined to find the right home for Eric – together they researched, visited, and said no to a lot of homes!
“Me and Deon looked at a lot of homes. We did a lot of research and a lot of checking. He was patient with me and worked with me, and we’d seen a lot of homes that needed a lot of work. But we stayed patient, stayed with it and kept looking”
In time, Deon not only found them a house that was accessible, but met their needs within the budget they had, a ranch style home in the Hampton Heights neighborhood. Eric enjoyed working with Deon because of his “knowledge of the real estate, the properties, and the areas, and what would work with the type of loan that I got approved for”.
Families that work with Acts have an entire team behind them, supporting them through the process. Each family has a coaching team surrounding them, communicating in-house – if a deal looks like it might fall through, a homebuyer coach is going to jump in with a realtor to put some pressure on the lender – we’ve got all of those resources working toward one thing – getting families into homes.
Eric attested to how important it was to have a team like Acts supporting you.
“People don’t realize if you got the right team with you it helps a lot because it kept me focused.”
The homebuying journey can be long and frustrating. It takes a lot of hard work and patience to reach the finish line, but every family that goes through Acts has a team behind them to support them on their journey. HUD-certified Homebuyer coaches, the lending and rehab team, and Acts realtors all work diligently to make sure every family realizes their dream of homeownership.
