Do you love the rush of clicking that ‘Add To Cart‘ button online? Anxiously awaiting your brown box packages to be delivered to your house. Showing off your new flat screen tv with the cool new feature you’ll stop caring about in 2 months because, to be honest, you spend most of your free time on the couch streaming Rose, Dorothy, Blanche, Sophia, Dwight, Jim, and Pam; not documentaries about the Amazon (the rainforest, not Bezos).
As the seasonal festivities are quickly approaching, here at Acts Housing we are thinking about the 250 (and counting) houses we’ve helped turn into homes just in time for the 2021 holidays! We’re elated for these families to be spending their first holiday season in their very own homes. We’re also thinking about all the other local nonprofits and how they spend the whole year putting our community first.
Give First on Tuesday, November 23
Together with over 40 Milwaukee-area nonprofits, we’re flipping the script on Giving Tuesday and we need your help to do it! We are asking you to consider giving the Tuesday BEFORE Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, I could use another air fryer Sunday, and Cyber Monday. Warm up your add-to-cart finger by supporting Acts Housing through Giving First on Tuesday, November 23. Your donation helps families begin the home buying journey with Acts Housing. With your support, we’re able to provide free homebuyer financial coaching, real estate services, Acts Lending loans, and home rehab coaching right here in the Milwaukee and Beloit area.
Good City Brewing Partnership
First to the Giving First party is Good City Brewing! In line with their motto to Seek the Good, they announced a 1% For Our Home initiative. Good City Brewing will be donating 1% of its annual sales to the community. They are kicking off by donating $30,000 to three Milwaukee area nonprofits. Acts Housing is honored to be chosen to be a recipient of this generous donation!
As young Padawans in 2009, cofounders Dan Katt and David Dupee decided to change career paths, put down roots here in Milwaukee and figure out how they could give back to the community here. That commitment to Milwaukee was the genesis of Good City Brewing. Since 2016, they’ve been brewing beers, making delicious food, and striving to seek the good.
In addition to their passion for delicious craft beer, Good City Brewing is also partnering with Acts Housing to pilot a program to assist Good City employees with purchasing their own homes. “There is a perception within the service industry that homeownership is not an option. We want our staff to consider the idea that they can be homeowners,” states Dupee. Katt and Dupee have worked hard to create a workspace for their staff, “that’s not just another job, but a career path.”
Before he moved here in 2006, Dupee had to open up a map to locate Milwaukee, but he fell in love with the city and knew this is where he was meant to “put down roots and help. We’re about the resurgence of the whole city, not just pockets of the city. We want to see the whole city flourish.” Together with Good City Brewing, Acts Housing is looking forward to turning more houses into homes in Milwaukee.
So before you click add to cart, consider how you can make a difference in Milwaukee. These local nonprofits put the community first all year long and hope you’ll consider putting them first this holiday season.
