Homeowners = Engaged Citizens
Something we’ve learned in our 25+ years helping families become homeowners: Empowerment through Homeownership leads to engaged citizens. Statistics show that compared to renters, homeowners are more likely to participate in community organizations, and nearly ¾ of homeowners report voting in local elections compared to only ½ of renters.
Home isn’t just a house…it’s community
Acts families aren’t just looking for a building to raise their children in. They’re looking for a home in the fullest sense of that word: a safe, sanitary house for shelter, space for kids, relatives, and friends, a neighborhood to explore, a community to thrive in.
They’re also willing to do the work for it, buying long-neglected homes in good communities, rolling up their sleeves, and doing the home rehab work that needs to be done. Once they’re settled in, Acts families become part of the fabric of the neighborhood.
Increasing the number of homeowners = increasing the number of engaged citizens
Last year, Acts Housing helped 181 families become homeowners. That’s 700+ adults and kids investing in—and building—better communities. Truly engaged citizens in every sense of the word.
