At the core of everything Acts does are the families we serve. Each family’s story is different, and all month long as we celebrate Longest Neighborhood Table 2021, we’re sharing some of our biggest family success stories.
The Bait and Switch
Maria and Angel Hernandez spent 8 years trying to buy a home. The routine seemed to always be the same:
- Visit a bank.
- Get pre-approved for a mortgage loan.
- Begin moving through the purchase process.
- Suddenly be confronted with last-minute “new requirements.”
It was disappointing, to say the least, and made homeownership seem impossible. Until they talked to their friends who were rehabbing a home they’d just purchased.
Maria and Angel’s friends purchased their home through Acts Housing’s Home Rehab & Lending program. Through our affiliated non-profit partner, Acts Lending, we provide mortgage loans to families for the purchase and rehabilitation of distressed properties. This program not only helps families overcome lending barriers on their way to homeownership but also helps restore vitality to entire neighborhoods by breathing new life into long-neglected homes.
Through our Home & Rehab Lending Program, Maria and Angel were not only able to become homeowners but were able to rehab a distressed house into their true dream home.
