Teamwork made the Dream Work for the Dismukes Family
When Yuselff and Nakeita Dismukes decided they needed to find a home for their growing family, they turned to Acts Housing. And like so many Acts families, the Dismukes were more than willing to do the hard work that the homebuying process requires.
Step 1: Meet Your Homebuyer & Financial Coach
First, Nakeita and Yuselff were introduced to their Acts Homebuyer Coach—Tony—who reviewed their current financial position with them so they could develop a homebuying plan. Tony instructed them on the steps they needed to take in order to obtain pre-approval for a loan, and helped them envision a realistic timeline. The Dismukes were on a mission; they finished this first phase and were pre-approved for their loan through Acts Lending in a few months.
Step 2: Add a Realtor to your Team
The next step was to work with their Acts realtor, Jenean, to find a home big enough for them and their four kids. This stage proved the most challenging. Not one of the dozen properties they looked at had everything they needed: space for a growing family, affordability, and the right amount of work to match their home rehab capabilities. It wasn’t until four months later (and nearly giving up on their dream) that they finally found a property that fit their criteria. They decided to purchase a duplex and convert it into a single-family home during the home rehab process.
Step 3: Add a Home Rehab Coach to your Team
The final phase on the Dismukes path to homeownership was rehabbing their City tax foreclosure with support and guidance from their Home Rehab Coach. They rolled up their sleeves and cleaned out the debris, doing what they could while professional contractors brought the plumbing, electric, and fireplace up to code. While the process didn’t feel as simple as what you see on HDTV, Nakeita and Yuselff lovingly customized bedrooms for each of the kids as a surprise on move-in day!
You’re Never Alone
Through it all, the Dismukes were never alone. Their Acts Housing coaching team was there for them every step of the way. And now, they have a stable forever home for their kids to grow up in, and have revitalized their neighborhood by giving a once-foreclosed home new life.
