Building Their Own Space
At the core of the work are the families we serve. Each family’s story is different, and all month long as we celebrate Longest Neighborhood Table 2021, we’re sharing stories of strong, resilient, empowered families.
For many new homeowners, any work that’s done to restore or update their home is left to hired contractors. For most of the families we serve, that’s work they proudly tackle themselves. It’s one of, if not the most inspiring things about our Acts families. And the Trinidad family is the perfect example of this determination and work ethic.
With Baby #4 on the way, they had truly outgrown the apartment they’d been renting. But constant rejection from traditional lending institutions made homeownership seem like an impossibility. With a little prodding from other family members who’d successfully gone through the Acts Housing homebuying program, the Trinidads enlisted our help.
Their goal: To celebrate Baby #4’s first Christmas in their new home
To get there, the Trinidads rolled up their sleeves and put the work in, saying no to parties and get-togethers with family and friends, and spending many long nights and weekends doing the hard work. The result? Their home was move-in ready by October, Baby Magdalena was born in November, and the entire family celebrated the Christmas holiday together in their brand new, fully restored home.
